Het leven in de tanks op de Turtle Farm is een beproeving voor de van nature solitaire zeeschildpad. Ze zijn zo gestrest dat ze elkaar bijten en verwonden. Daarnaast vindt er veel inteelt plaats waardoor sommige schildpadden zelfs zonder ogen worden geboren.

Deze schildpadden worden onder deze vreselijke omstandigheden gehouden enkel uit winstbejag. Hoewel enkele gelukkige dieren in de natuur worden teruggezet wordt het merendeel geslacht en verkocht als steak of burger.
